Castlegar
Located at the confluence of the Kootenay and Columbia Rivers, and home of the West Kootenay's regional airport, Castlegar is one of the friendliest cities in the Kootenays. With a population of 7,000, this wonderful city has something for everyone ... from golfing, hiking, biking, fishing to exploring museums and more!
If fishing is your passion, try your hand at the excellent rainbow and walleye fishing, as well as whitefish and some burbot angling near the dam. You can catch rainbows between 18-28 inches on fly and live bait.
If history piques your interest, walk across the unique suspension bridge to Zuckerberg Island, where you will find Alexander Zuckerberg’s Russian Orthodox Chapel House, wonderful walking trails, picnic areas and views.
The Doukhobor Discovery Centre will introduce you to Doukhobor arts, crafts, customs and religion as well as food at the Village Bistro. The Village is open 10 am to 5 pm every day from May 1 to September 30. Phone 365-6622 for information. The Station Museum and Gift Shop, located in the old Railway Station, is worth stopping in to see!
