Creston is a town which functions as regional centre for the surrounding valley and the lakeside villages that hug the east shore of Kootenay Lake. It boasts a population of approximately 5300. The Creston Valley, often referrred to as the Valley of Swans, produces a bounty of fruit, vegetables and grain. In the summer and fall, the seasonal roadside stands and the wineries are bustle with activity. The lush farmland skirting the southern end of Kootenay Lake is laid out for you like a Mondrianesque carpet of green and gold.

There are several spots, as you head into or away from the downtown, to pause and take in this spectacular view. In Creston you’ll find a friendly small-town vibe, a thriving arts community, a well-serviced downtown core, an active sports complex, and a fascinating museum. Take it all in but be sure to give yourself a day or two to take a farm tour or a wine tasting tour, or explore the 17,000 acres of wetlands at the Creston Valley Wildlife Management Area on foot or by canoe.
